In 2009, the economic inspection of Belgium has confiscated 230,000 fakes. This is 65% more than last year. The confiscated goods have a value of 4,4 million euro.
In most of the cases, illegal DVD's,CD's,toys, jewelry and other accessories were countergeited. These goods were found at carnival hucksters and stallholders, at retailers, near football stadiums and concert halls.
Vincent van Quickenborne, Minister responsible for the simplification of the administration, says that soon, the fakes files will be quicker concluded. The agents will be able to impose amicable settlements. The fines have an amount of minimum 50 euro and maximum 550,000 euro.
The fakes are, after the confiscation, destroyed in a incinerator in Brussels. But not everything have to be destroyed. There will come a new law that makes it possible to recycle fakes. For example: fake toys will be transformed into plastic granules.
I think that counterfeiting has become a very big problem. Nowadays, everything could be counterfeited: DVD's,CD's, brand clothes and many more. Some people don't care about it, they think it's good that it exists because it's less expensive.
However the fakes consists of toxic substances. They are very dangerous for our health.
My conclusion: I understand why people don't have a problem with fakes but these fakes aren't good for out health. It's very important that counterfeiters are being fined.
